Consonant Challenge

Consonant Challenge is a quick and easy word game which only takes a few minutes to play.

Age: Adults and older children

No. of players: 2 or more

Equipment: None

Time: 2 minutes+

Aim: The aim is to be the fastest player to say the alphabet without vowels.

1. Players take turns to say the alphabet, in order, but omitting the vowels. Each player is timed with a stopwatch or by using the second hand on a clock.

2. One person will need to act as judge to ensure they say all the consonants while skipping all the vowels. That is: B C D F G H J K L M N P Q R S T V W X Y Z.

3. A player who misses a consonant or includes a vowel (A E I O U) gains a five second penalty which is added to their time for each mistake. The player with the lowest score wins the game.

Variation: Instead of reciting the alphabet without vowels, players must recite the alphabet backwards. That is: Z Y X W V U T S R Q P O N M L K J I H G F E D C B A. All other rules are the same.
