Stop
Stop is a popular South American game played by children in Colombia. Age: All ages No. of players: Any number Equipment: A ball of any size Time: 10+ minutes Aim: To catch the ball and/or avoid being hit when it is thrown at their legs.
1. To play the game, one player is chosen to be the caller. The caller holds a ball while the other players move around. 2. The caller throws the ball in the air and then calls the name of another player. The named player must try to catch the ball before it hits the ground while the other players run away. 3. If the player catches the ball, they count to three and then throw the ball in the air while calling another player's name. This continues until a player misses catching the ball. 4. When they miss the ball, they call "Stop!" The rest of the players must then stand still. They can move their body but must not move their feet. The player must retrieve the ball and then try to hit any other player on the legs (gently) with the ball. A player who is hit becomes the new caller but if the thrower misses, they become the new caller. You might like to play these other South American games:
