Family Games Treasurehouse Newsletter - November 2012
November 19, 2012

Welcome to our second Family Games Treasurehouse newsletter for November 2012. Why do we have a second issue in one month? Because Thanksgiving is an incredibly important time of year as we reflect on all the blessings of the past twelve months.

If you have a Thanksgiving party over the next few days, or you just want to celebrate with your family and friends, check out these great games.

H-A-P-P-Y T-H-A-N-K-S-G-I-V-I-N-G

H-A-P-P-Y T-H-A-N-K-S-G-I-V-I-N-G is a good ice-breaker game for your next Thanksgiving party. Each player will need a piece of paper with the letters H-A-P-P-Y T-H-A-N-K-S-G-I-V-I-N-G written down the left side of the page. Everyone mingles around and tries to get a signature beside each letter. Players with that letter in their first or last name can sign beside the letter, but they can only sign once. For example, Peter Gibbs can sign for one P but not for the other P, the T, S or either of the G's.

Turkey

Turkey is a fun, active Thanksgiving Day game for larger groups. Everyone divides into teams of 4 to 6 players. Teams have five minutes to dress one of their members as a "turkey" using materials such as crepe paper, old nylon stockings, newspaper, a roll of toilet paper, shopping bags, coloured marker pens, string, adhesive tape, scissors, etc.

Thanksgiving Rumours

Thanksgiving Rumours is a variation of the old parlour game, Chinese Whispers (also known as Rumours or Broken Telephone). Players line up in teams, one behind another. The first player in each team is given a phrase that they whisper to the next player, who then whispers the message to the following player and so on down the line. The phrase MUST NOT BE REPEATED if the following player does not understand it. When the message has passed along both teams, the final player of each team tells everyone what they thought the phrase was, before the leaders of the teams tell the original message. Some suggested phrases for Thanskgiving are; 'Thank the Almighty for His bounteous blessings through joyous reunions and festal dinners' or 'Harvest feasts and plentiful pantries are indicative of faithful Thanksgiving'.
