Newcombe Ball is a fun and active game that can be played by anyone of average fitness and skill. Two helpers hold the rope or net just above head height (they can stand on chairs so their arms don't get too tired, or use poles to hold the rope/net at the right height). A court area is marked on each side of the rope by placing a jumper or hat at the corners about 6 metres (20 feet) from the rope. Adjust the size of the court to suit the number of players.

1. Players divide into two teams of roughly equal skill, with one team on each side of the 'net'.

2. One player stands behind the corner marker on their side of the net and throws the ball over the net into the opposing team's court. Players on that team try to catch the ball before it touches the ground.

3. If they catch the ball, they throw it back over the net. If they miss the ball, the other side scores one point.

4. If a team throws the ball so that it lands outside the court without the opposing team touching it, the receiving team scores one point.

5. The team that did NOT score the point begins the next round by throwing the ball from behind the back line.

6. The first team to score eleven points wins the game. Mix up the teams and play again.
